Visual Symbols in my Life (AHA! Blog Post 1)

Visual symbols are all around us.  One thing that I see on a daily basis are the images on clothing.  We can immediately distinguish the kinds of clothes people buy, the types of things they may be into, and how we perceive them as one thing or another simply by seeing images that are worn on the clothing of people.  I'm not at all agreeing with judging people by what they wear, but it's all around us; in magazines, on TV, on the internet.  A lot of people who are into fashion will wear what they see.  There are even people who make knock-off's of popular brands.  They are recognized as one brand or anther simply by the symbol that is on that material.   I don't think this always has to be a bad thing.  Often symbols on clothing represent who someone is, or what they stand for.  It can individualize a person. A person wearing "Jordan" or "Fox" clothes may be into sports. People wearing Louis Vuitton may be perceived as rich.  The clothing may be perceived as high quality simply because of the price tag, which is not always the case. Logo's often make a brand popular.  I know growing up, I recognized logos on clothing, and it made me want to buy certain brands.  This can be true about anything that one may buy.  The apple on Mac products has been a famous symbol for a long time.  All of the symbols we see make a brand prosper, and make them known around the world.  They are in my every day life, and I believe they will continue to be.  They make statements about people, and can often determine how someone is perceived.  I do not think this is always true, but many times it is.  I believe it can be a good thing, and a bad thing at the same time.
